I have come to the conclusion that I made the worst decision in taking Bernard’s offer in coming to this so called “civilized” society. If you ask me nothing in this horrific place is civilized. It has done nothing but brain-wash its citizens. All that this man who dares to call himself, the controller is making theses innocent people believe ridiculous things! No one is able to think, or better yet I doubt that they even know what thinking is. Everyone is ALWAYS happy. This is because of soma. My god, soma! Soma is nothing but a drug used to be kept busy.
It is simply horrific to know that literature does not exist in this society. Oh, how I love literature! It has opened my eyes up to everything in this world. It has taught me that everything is corrupt and that nothing is right. At least not here anyway. It is sad to say that the people living here are nothing much but humans set on autopilot mode. Everything they do is repetitive and essentially has no meaning behind it other than make society worse than it already is.
Their idea of love is nothing more than people “having each other”. And they call me savage. It crushes me on the inside to know that the one woman who I truly love is incapable to share the same feelings that I have towards her because of what soma has done to her. Oh my dear Lenina! Why can’t you realize that the love I have towards you is real? That it has nothing to do with lust. You instinctively see it as another opportunity to have sex with someone. Especially me. I am the savage after all aren’t I? Well it hurts to know that this is what you feel about me, yet I know that it is all because of soma. But why can’t you see past this? Why! I say that we’re destined to be star-crossed lovers, yet it’s hard for me to accept that you feel nothing but lust towards me.
So it has come to my realization that all this is true and that there is nothing that I can do to change it. And it has taught me that none of this is reversible. Thankfully I have learned all this, yet I feel so ashamed to have any type of involvement that the only way of purifying myself from it is to remove myself from this sick and twisted world.
Goodbye.
Ethos: "No one is able to think, or better yet I doubt that they even know what thinking is. Everyone is ALWAYS happy. This is because of soma. My god, soma! Soma is nothing but a drug used to be kept busy." This appeals to how everyone in the society doesn't know anything and are kept blind from the real world because of soma.
Pathos: "Oh my dear Lenina! Why can’t you realize that the love I have towards you is real? That it has nothing to do with lust." This appeals to Johns emotional response to Lenina's lack of real emotions.
Logos: "Oh, how I love literature! It has opened my eyes up to everything in this world. It has taught me that everything is corrupt and that nothing is right." This shows how John uses literature to learn something .

I liked the way you used "star-crossed lovers" in the third paragraph (:
ReplyDeleteGood job,I don't realy notice anaphora, though.
ReplyDeleteI like how you used different examples to show about the negative outcomes of soma
ReplyDeletegood job!i like how you expressed how much john loves Lenina but she can't return that feeling.
ReplyDeleteGood job Lidia! I loved how you explained that the humans in the society are "humans set on autopilot mode." I agree with Jennifer as well!
